One-Hit-Wonder Top Ten – Mike Bibko

Welcome back to the Weekly Top Ten on the Pi Sigma Epsilon blog, the ultimate business fraternity and now your number #1 source for the latest in music.  Every week, I’ll be reviewing 5-10 songs, switching up bands/themes/genres, and giving you the links so that you can hear what you’ve been missing.  Got a favorite song you want on my list? Post it on our blog and I’ll do what I can to preview it for next week.  NEW: I’ve been making an effort to include the official music videos when I can so make sure to take a look at a few of the links.

Every once in a while, we’re all struck by an extraordinary idea.  Like the ones that have inspired world-famous songs for decades.  But extraordinary ideas are often tough to come by and it’s difficult for a lot of bands to recreate their success.  So get ready for some serious nostalgia and jump on this fad before it disappears; it’s the One-Hit-Wonder Top Ten.

(Disclaimer: A lot of these bands or musicians have many other great songs, but only one or two that were very popular.)

10. I Love College- Asher Roth

The laid-back kid with the voice of Eminem dropping some all-too-familiar knowledge about the college life.

9. Thé à la menthe- La Caution

Made famous in the Laser Dance scene in Ocean’s 12.  Check out the video…bring the lasers and I’ll totally do this at Formal.

8. Return of the Mack- Mark Morrison

A classic from the mid-1990’s that almost topped at #1…only to be ousted by Hanson haha.

7. Heaven- Los Lonely Boys

One of those songs that just cheers you up.  Great live performance at the Super Bowl a few years back.

6. Boston- Augustana

Had the opportunity to see them play at Thursday in the Square in 2007…great jam.

5. American Boy feat. Kanye West-Estelle

Kinda my theme song over in London haha.  Couple great verses by Kanye and definitely excited for some of Estelle’s new material coming out soon.

4. Remember The Name- Fort Minor

Still one of the best pump-up tracks ever.  Good guest verse from Styles of Beyond.

3. Ocean Avenue-Yellowcard

Brings you back to the high school days…amazing drummer btw.

2. Ridin’- Chamillionaire & Krayzie Bone

The song of the summer a few years ago… and some great lines from one of the original Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

1. Stacy’s Mom- Fountains of Wayne

The ultimate one-hit wonder…”got it going on.”

There it is. Don’t forget to hit me up with requests or comments and I’ll see you right here next week. DJ Gold
