Welcome Freshman! – Allie Sim

If this is your first semester at the University at Buffalo, you’re probably extremely overwhelmed right now. You could be thinking anything from “how am I going to make friends?” to “who’s going to do my laundry?” Unfortunately, you’re on your own for that laundry part, but as for making friends I have two words of advice for you. GET INVOLVED!

One place you could stop by is the Student Association office, located in 330 Student Union. There are over 150 clubs to choose from, and this is the temple of clubs, my friends! All you have to do is go up to the friendly people at the front desk, let them know what you’re interested in, and they’ll point you in the right direction to start getting more information from the club(s) of your choice! Yes, it is THAT SIMPLE!

Even though a large bulk of the clubs at UB are though the Student Association, there are so many other ways to get involved. There is Greek Life, RHA, athletics, even the School of Management has clubs. Now you may be thinking “Allie, why would I get involved with a club in the School of Management? I’m not even a business major!” For some clubs you make a good point, some of the clubs in the SOM are closed to business students. However, many of them are not, including our very own Pi Sigma Epsilon. PSE is the only national professional co-ed fraternity that specializes in sales, marketing, and sales management. We thrive on diversity. Diversity of majors, nationalities, interests, talents, and more! It’s also a place to find lifelong friends, while gaining real world experience with real life companies, such as The Princeton Review. For more information click here!

There are probably a million other ways to get involved that even after three years of being a UB student, I don’t even know about. If you’re still stumped about what to do you still have some options. You can talk to any upperclassmen you know, and there are more than you think. Your Resident Advisor, Academic Advisor, TA’s, even the kids working at any of the food places on campus (yes that sounds weird, but chances are they’re older than you and will be more than happy to talk to you when the line for food isn’t TOO long.) As basic as this sounds, you can even walk through the Student Union any afternoon of the week and find anywhere from 1 to 5 clubs trying to wrangle in new members. In fact, I think Pi Sigma Epsilon is tabling today in the Student Union from 10 to 2…
